When Should a Woman Care About Her Fertility?

  • Extremely painful menstruation, which can indicate endometriosis or other problems affecting fertility. Preventive examinations will give you a clearer picture of your options and help you plan parenthood with confidence.
  • Fertility should be addressed around the age of 30, when the number and quality of eggs begins to decline, and this process is irreversible.
  • Absent menstruation, may indicate a hormonal disorder, PCOS or premature ovarian failure. All of these conditions can negatively affect the ability to conceive.
  • Planned pelvic procedures or treatment of oncological diseases. If you are facing surgery or treatment (e.g. chemotherapy, radiation), it is important to evaluate fertility preservation options in advance - for example, by freezing eggs.

When Should a Man Care About His Fertility?

    • After age 40, when fertility begins to decline and sperm quality can affect the ability to conceive.
    • In cases of severe semen analysis disorders.
    • Before chemotherapy.
    • In case of planned vasectomy.
    • When taking strong medications or hormones.
    • In case of a deteriorated lifestyle, when factors such as stress, unhealthy diet, smoking, alcohol or toxins negatively affect sperm quality.

    Infertility Affects the Couple

For the treatment to be as successful as possible, we always examine both partners. The problem may be with the woman, the man, or a combination of both. Together, however, we look for ways to increase the chance of having the desired child.

When is it time to seek help?

If you have been trying to conceive without success, you do not need to wait for years before seeking support.

For women under 35, a fertility consultation is recommended after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse. For women 35 and older, it is recommended after 6 months. If a woman is over 37, or there are known fertility concerns, it is best to seek advice sooner.

Getting checked earlier can help identify possible causes, reduce unnecessary stress and give you a clearer plan for the next steps.

Why is time our greatest opponent?

Long delays in addressing the issue can worsen the problem with conception.

If you are unable to conceive, it does not automatically mean that you must go straight down the path of in vitro fertilization (IVF). You can use the natural conception program, which helps identify minor deviations that may prevent conception, and these can often be easily corrected or supported with appropriate steps.

Time plays a key role. With a woman's age, both the number and quality of eggs decline. Around age 25, a woman has approximately 80% quality eggs, but after 35 the quality begins to deteriorate and after 40 it is only approximately 20%.

This natural decline in the number and quality of eggs affects the chances of conception, which is why it is important to address fertility problems in a timely manner.

How does the first consultation work for international patients?

Your journey starts with a dedicated international patient coordinator, who will review your situation, help you understand the process and guide you toward the most suitable next step.

You will then have a consultation with a GYN-FIV doctor, usually online, where your medical history, previous results and fertility goals are reviewed and the recommended treatment pathway is discussed.

Whenever possible, examinations and monitoring can be completed in your home country, with travel to Slovakia planned only for the essential stages of treatment. Our team coordinates the process from your first contact through treatment and follow-up.
